Welcome to the Music Web Site
About Mr. Lehmenkuler
I am a fully certified music educator and music geek. In college I specialized in brass instruments (first chair f-horn in concert band, trumpet in jazz band) and chorus. I took a short leave-of-absence from music education, from 1976 to 2004, while I worked in the telecommunications and electronics industries. During this time I played many gigs, gave private lessons, and sang in several excellent choirs. I have always taken the sage advice given to most musicians. "Keep your day job!" Teaching kids is the best day job I have ever had. I find it much more rewarding than the electronics industry.
Band
As with last year, we are combining the sixth, seventh, and the eighth graders into one band. This gives us the best total instrument complement. Here is our current rehearsal schedule.
-
Band meets Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
-
Band members attend rehearsals during the second and third lunch periods. They eat lunch during the first lunch period.
-
Band members do not miss any core classes.
-
After school lessons are available. Contact Mr. Lehmenkuler to sign up.
This schedule allows us to increase skills that are appropriate to student experience levels. It also allows us to give each student the benefits associated with playing in a large ensemble.
Band is a graded class. In NH, middle school band is judged to be on the same importance level as math, language arts, and science. HDMS strives to provide instruction that meets all state music performance standards.

General Music
This year general music students are are creating music using things, aka junk, they find around their home. They form groups and create at least two multi-part music compositions. Students will also learn how to choreograph movement to popular tunes. During this course each student will...
-
Learn how to effectively cooperate with groups of varying sizes.
-
Create their own musical compositions.
-
Play in a small ensemble.
-
Critique their work and figure out how to make necessary improvements.
-
Learn how to move to music on a planned basis as opposed to a spur of the moment basis. This requires a great deal of cooperative planning and trust.
